The Different Meanings Of Giving Teddy Bear and Flowers

Did you know that the ubiquitous teddy bear has a remarkable and historic past?

Teddy bear was named after US President Theodore Roosevelt. In 1902, President Roosevelt went on a bear-hunting adventure in Mississippi. Seven days without success, President Roosevelt’s attendants chained a black bear into a willow tree and summoned the President to go for the kill. Perceiving this as unsportsmanlike, the President refused. With journalists covering the presidential bear hunt, newspapers published cartoon editorials of the President’s bear misadventure the next day, but it was only by permission from President Roosevelt requested by New York couple Morris and Rose Mitchtom that the term “teddy bear” was officially used.

The couple then ventured into producing the toy which the world now regales as the cute, cuddly, huggable teddy bear. Before teddy bear and flowers were sent to girls, boys used to play with teddy bears a lot.

Today, you can give teddy bear and flowers for all occasions. Amongst teenagers, a small, usually, white teddy bear and flowers can mean the bashful attempt at making friends and expressing juvenile crushes. Teddy bear and flowers can also be given to children who are confined in the hospital for an illness, to wish them well and to give them comfort. The soft stuffed toy animal has been a favourite source of good, comforting feelings especially for those suffering from an illness.

Among newly-married couples, teddy bear and flowers, particularly chrysanthemums, adorn the honeymoon lodge and set the mood for protective love not just for each other but for the offspring to come.

Teddy bear and flowers liven things up like nothing else can. Both are an expression of a pure intent from the giver to make someone happy, comfortable, and secure.

Many stuffed toy teddy bears are derived from the grizzly bear, which in real life are big, muscular bears that can be so fierce when attacked. Although generally, grizzly bears are peaceful animals and can only be protective over their young.
