Florists
Research Says Florists Are Among Happiest Workers
You can say florists have been around since the prehistoric period when the first fossils of flowers found in caves in ancient Iraq were dated. Flowers are woven into man’s life and its many customs and traditions, including births, deaths, the transition of leadership, marriage, among others.
Today, florists continue to be the purveyors of goodwill, happy feelings, sunshine, warmth, forgiveness, celebration, love, and all the deepest and most tender feelings conceivable to man, through their floral creations.
This unique role is one reason why florists are among the happiest workers in the world, according to the Happiness Index study published by UK-based vocational awards group, The City and Guild. Sharing the happiness with clergymen, beauticians and hairdressers, florists are reported to have found happiness blooming in every flower. White-collared workers, even lawyers, pharmacists, and civil government employees are the least among who wear a sanguine smile.
So why are florists happy? For one, most of them consider their vocation as the coolest in the world. Doing floral arrangements gives them the opportunity for self-expression and for helping others. Receiving the constant positive vibes from flower shoppers also radiate in the florists’ countenances.
The City and Guild also attribute the high happiness index to the socialisation they receive while at work. Florists expressed that meeting new people and feeling appreciated is key to their happiness. They also enjoy work-life balance better than those who have 8-hour white collar jobs.
It is not hard to imagine the joy florists get from their daily interaction with colourful flowers, and their opportunity to turn flowers into a creative masterpiece. It is also inherent in their work to win friendships with their customers especially as they also are privileged to see through a window of their personal lives.
Flowers are a great way to communicate the best of human feelings and intentions. And we are so glad that happy florists are there to help make this happen.
